The skies are painted in hues of grey as frost begins to settle on the ground. Then comes the first snow, enveloping the city streets in a contemplative silence. Fields turn white, and excited school children break out their skates and snow pants, while others camouflage themselves in the warmth of school bathrooms, praying for recess to end. The smells of seasonal spices begin to mean so much more than before. Any outdoor time consists of shifting articles of clothing and permanently flexed muscles as if to say “I can take it Winter!” Whether you hate it or love it, winter is an inescapable facet of London Ontario living. This truth prompted us to ask a few local photographers to share some of their favourite photos of the frosty season. We hope that this series will shed new light on the beauty within the beast we call Winter.
