It’s been over 42 days since London’s first ever Black Lives Matter protest where approximately 10,000 people braved the threat of proximity during a pandemic outbreak in order to assemble and demand justice for black lives. The energy was a medley of hope, frustration and pain, particularly for London’s black community. The experience of allyship and solidarity provoked sentiments of relief, gratitude and perhaps uncertainty. In the wake of the demonstration, as the calls for justice via Instagram and Twitter have wained, a question arises in their dust— what happens next? Who will answer the cries that were unleashed on July 6th? We asked two black women in our community to explore their feelings and thoughts on the matter, the resulting literature encompasses a call to continue to engage with the uncomfortable matters of justice, however inconvenient they may be.
