#OurLondonFamily

On Sunday, four members of a beautiful family, spanning three generations, were taken from the London community in an act of senseless anti-Muslim terror. Their names are:

Talat Afzaal, 74

Salman Afzaal, 46

Madiha Salman, 44

Yumna Salman, 15

See Collective is grieving with millions of others across London and Canada’s broader Muslim community. We stand with and amplify the voices of community activists and advocates calling for legislation to materially address the rising problem of white supremacy and anti-Muslim hatred. We must do our part to help ensure this depth of loss can never be felt here ever again.

When we fail to address white supremacy swiftly and directly, or we fail in backing up well-wishes with tactile pressure on elected officials, it is always racialized communities that bear the brunt of those failures. It is always people like Fayez Afzaal, a 9-year-old boy who will grow up without the loving touch of his parents, sister, and grandmother.

To our Muslim friends: This city is your city. This country is your country. We stand with you in solidarity and peace.

We invite you to take action.

It was acquired by the Mosque, and still has $1,000,000 outstanding to fully purchase it. Also, it will need more funds to renovate it into a fully functioning school to be used for our London Islamic School, Weekend London Islamic School, and Quran Hifth Program.

The Social and Racial Equity Committee

The Social and Racial Equity Committee, in collaboration with the London Muslim community, will work towards identifying and responding meaningfully to issues regarding social and racial marginalization within our community and beyond, and establish training programs and workshops that will facilitate a supportive learning environment that is committed to justice for all.
